About the Role

This is a 12month Fixed Term Contract role.

Join NPL to design and deliver the data capability at the heart of a major digital transformation.

You will have the crucial responsibility of designing and delivering the data capability for an exemplar centralised Business Intelligence function. It will be a highly influential role in the delivery of data management across the organisation to embed quality data, information and knowledge management. Key areas of focus include:

  • delivering technical data capabilities to support the centralised Business Intelligence in its reporting, analytics and insight role
  • developing ETL processes operational ERP/CRM and other data sources
  • driving adherence to data quality requirements across the platform
  • enabling a significant self-serve reporting capability
  • developing the data dictionary and model, and delivering technology that improves information search and knowledge transfer
  • supporting IT Services with requirements for Data Governance, Security, Retention and Backup.
About You

You need to bring:

  • experience of developing large complex data systems - capturing, storing and processing data
  • an understanding of ETL design and Data Warehousing
  • a deep understanding of the big data landscape
  • experience of optimising data queries to ensure optimal performance
  • Implementation of Data Quality processes
  • Experience with Microsoft technologies including SQL/SERVER, PowerBI, SQL AZURE, SSRS, DevOps
  • Skills in Relational Databases, Performance Tuning, OLAP, SQL DBA
  • Experience in systems development and systems support, ideally in relation to Business Information, Analytical Data Processing and/or CRM solutions.
  • Detailed knowledge of Azure Stack - minimum 6 months
  • The ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical language and communicate these to internal and external stakeholders
  • Data analysis and synthesis - Ability to undertake data profiling and source system analysis and can present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data.
  • Data integration design - Ability to deliver data workflows in accordance with agreed organisational standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable and future-proof.
  • Data development process - Ability to design, build and test data products based on feeds from multiple systems using a range of different storage technologies and/or access methods. Have the know how to create repeatable and reusable products.
  • Data modelling - Understands the concepts and principles of data modelling and can produce, maintain and update relevant data models for specific business needs
  • Problem resolution (data) -  Knows about the types of problems in databases, data processes, data products and services.
  • Testing -  Ability to execute test scripts under supervision and understand the role of testing and how it works.
