In a nutshell, you’ll take on a vast array of administrative roles that will ensure your department operates efficiently. Handling enquiries, you’ll either resolve them yourself or pass the enquiry on to the relevant person. Perhaps someone needs some data, information or a report. If they do, you’ll know where to locate it and circulate it as needed. You’ll also be the one who takes responsibility for updating and maintaining your departments records, systems and databases. You’ll even organise and manage department activities and supplies. Whatever is asked of you, you’ll give it your all. And whilst you’ll follow the various procedures and processes in place, if you see something that can improved upon, we’ll expect you to share your thoughts. About You

This role covers three main areas of work, general administration, local marketing, event co-ordination.

Our departments are busy. That’s why we need someone who is exceptionally organised. You’ll have some administrative experience. In addition, if you’ve got commercial know-how, great communication skills, are willing to go above and beyond and have lots of common sense, then we’re interested from hearing from you. Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours. At NPL we learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better. For ourselves and for our customers. And whilst we’re always looking to stretch beyond what we know, we don’t make things more complicated when there’s no need.

Administration duties include: -
Produce and manage purchase orders
Arrange and manage room bookings
Arrange and manage visitor passes, parking, meet and greet
Organise equipment calibration, including management of records
Copying, scanning and filing of records
Shredding of commercial documents
Manage local supplies (stationery and technical spares)
Answer the telephone and handle enquiries
Manage contact lists (according to GDPR regulations)
Take minutes at meetings
Arrange collections and deliveries of items
Support line-manager in their tasks where required

Marketing & Events duties include: -
Helping to manage the Manufacturer Measurement Network (MMN) including:
o Organising and supporting the running of in-person and online events
o Produce a monthly MMN newsletter
o Managing membership (inc. new member enrolment & regular comms)
o Organising and minuting MMN steering committee
o Manage LinkedIn page for MMN and marketing of events on LinkedIn
o Managing event publicity through local networks and nationally with help from Marketing dept.
o Produce NPL Intranet articles pre and post-events
Producing flyers and other publicity material
Building links with local businesses and FE/HE institutes
Work with the NPL marketing team to ensure the NPL brand is managed properly
Attending NPL events (internal and external) including helping on NPL stands at external events

Essential skills: -
You'll be a very good communicator with excellent spoken and written English
Be self-motivated to complete tasks which are under your control (with minimum supervision) and tasks which are allocated to you by your manager
Able to work flexible hours when needed to cover evening events and be available to travel and spend the occasional night away from home to support NPL events.
Experience in marketing or excellent skills in communicating through social media and use of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel.
Ideally you will have experience in producing publicity material such as flyers.
