As a Senior Deliver Manager, you’ll manage a team to ensure your portfolio of products and services delivers to expectations and that every opportunity is realised – including identifying new products and collaborations to feed into our continued growth. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.

Managing a team, you’ll take a holistic view of the products and services within your portfolio – to check that we’re maximising every opportunity and that everything’s being delivered as it should be. Working with the business, science and engineering leaders, you’ll help put together resourcing, business and investment plans, as well as long-term strategies. You will also work with team leaders to develop new product and service ideas, taking into consideration the impact this will have on the broader organisation. Building relationships with existing customers, new customers, potential partners and collaborators will therefore also be essential. And you will also take responsibility for the performance of your team – motivating them to do better, carrying out their reviews, developing their potential and encouraging them to work together and model NPL’s values.

About You
Without doubt, you need to be an experienced Delivery Manager. So, a proven background of delivering complex business and technical projects using internal and external suppliers is essential. A natural leader, you must have experience of managing a team, which means you’ll need superb communication, organisation and influencing skills. Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours. At NPL we learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better. For ourselves and for our customers. And whilst we’re always looking to stretch beyond what we know, we don’t make things more complicated when there’s no need. 
 
This role will be split into two areas: -

Delivery Manager for the Assured Autonomy area - 70% of your time

  • Have interest and affinity with the area – no science experience needed, but willingness to get into the content
  • Maintain the overview of all projects active in the area as well as the pipeline
  • Project manage as required. For all projects lead (with PMO support for projects where available) capacity planning and regular re-planning, deliverables tracking to time/quality/budget and support, procurement and capital requests as well as health and safety with lab manager support
  • For pipeline projects, work with partnership team and scientists in scoping the bids, the costing and be the science voice in meetings where needed
  • Work off-site at client/test bed locations as needed, including Cardington c. once a week, in the future probably Plymouth - subject to change
  • Support Principal Research Scientist in defining strategy for the area
  • Line manage selected staff

Deputy Group Leader - 30% of your time

  • Keep the Group’s master information up to date
  • Deputise for Group Leader when appropriate and when they are on leave (including approvals, meeting attendance)
