Research is at the heart of all we do. In this vital role, you’ll help carry out a variety of technical activities that will help us resolve problems we’ve identified, to achieve positive outcomes.
 
It’s very much a team effort. And whilst there’ll be a number of pre-determined activities, we’ll expect you to be proactive too – spotting commercial opportunities along the way.
 
It’s also important that you strive to deepen your subject matter knowledge, sharing this as you go so that everyone benefits – championing your work and its importance.  All of which you’ll complete on time, within budget and to the highest standards.  

About You

The role requires either good science A Levels or equivalent vocational qualifications, and preferably higher educational qualifications or laboratory experience.

For the role at the Scientist level, a physics degree / equivalent qualifications or directly relevant laboratory experience is required. Strong practical, numerical and team working skills are essential.

  • You will be part of a team responsible for the maintenance and development of national standards for the measurement temperature and you will use these facilities to deliver customer calibration services at the highest quality.
  • You will combine calibration work with laboratory support duties such as managing an inventory of equipment.
  • NPL has leading capabilities to calibrate thermometers between approximately -196 °C and 3000 °C as well as expertise and novel techniques for solving real-world temperature and humidity measurement problems.
