About the Role

Currently a team of 12, covering a range of operational infrastructure support areas across on-prem and the cloud. Responsible for core on-prem services including the network, endpoint configuration management, physical and virtual server infrastructure, enterprise storage, compute resources, telephony, and backup and recovery solutions. In addition to on-prem services, we support a growing number of core services hosted in the cloud, primarily within the Microsoft 365 E5 stack, Azure and other cloud service providers e.g. Citrix.

We focus on both operational support and project delivery, working with other teams including cyber security in support of Cyber Essentials and ISO27001 requirements, service management to provide engineering escalations and change activity, digital delivery to provide the technical capabilities to implement new services and ensure operational readiness, and the business applications team in underpinning and providing availability for core ERP applications.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of responsibilities as well as the opportunity to focus on specific technology areas. It is assumed that this senior level role will play an important role in training and developing staff from Service Desk and Service Delivery areas.
 
About You

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor, manage and maintain all networking infrastructure to ensure continued service delivery
  • Work with stakeholders to determine business requirements for network solutions or changes to existing services
  • Provide support to other Infrastructure team members responsible for Endpoint IPAM/DHCP/DNS services
  • Implement network improvements and manage changes to support all users with minimal downtime
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity to ensure internal and external are fully secured using network access control and segmentation technologies
  • Manage and report on network utilisation and performance of wired and wireless infrastructure to ensure that business requirements are met, and solutions are developed that are fit for purpose
  • Create and maintain operational documentation relating to the LAN/WAN/WIFI infrastructure

Key experience, knowledge and skills: 

  • Network protocols and topologies including OSPF, BGP, VRFs
  • Allied Telesis EPSR Ring topologies
  • Allied Telesis network management tools AMF Vista
  • Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise switching and Omnivista management
  • Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Stellar Wi-Fi networks
  • Next Gen Firewalls (preferably Fortinet) and VPN
  • Network security concepts such as NAC, 802.1x and segmentation systems (Preferably Forescout)
  • Protocols used in resilient systems e.g. VRRP, LACP, Virtual-Chassis
  • Physical data centre and hub room management
  • Excellent all-round hardware knowledge
  • Excellent standard of written documentation - e.g. policies, procedures, wiki/knowledgebase articles
