About the Role

The group is a world leading player when it comes to measurements underpinning Earth Observation and Climate Science. We help calibrate satellite instrumentation, we provide measurement traceability for the vicarious calibration of satellites, and we are actively involved in improving the quality of earth observation data. Apart from the Earth Observation and Climate Science community, the group serves a wide range of customers from a variety of industries such as Health Care, Advanced Manufacturing, and Aerospace.

Impact of the role: The group is currently upgrading a lot of its measurement infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to get involved in setting up world-leading measurement service capability.

In this role, you would work with our science experts and design engineers to deliver either upgrades to existing facilities or completely new measurement facilities – from requirements capture through to final delivery. The facilities range from commercial off the shelf equipment to highly complex and world leading measurement facilities. Subject to substantial leadership experience, you will act as the engineering lead on these developments, alongside science experts and project managers as appropriate.

About You
Essential skills:

Software: programming Labview at professional level, requirements capture, development and testing
Q
uality systems experience working to quality systems requirements (ISO9001 :2015)
Experience of Building experimental facilities / Building experimental set-ups – following a rigorous systems engineering approach
A good work history of problem solving and fault finding in electronic systems and IT
Data acquisition system design (Experience with RS232, USB, Ethernet, PXI and GPIB instruments)
Motion control experience (stepper motors / servo systems) 
Automating systems / implementing control systems
Must be able to lift 10 kg unassisted
Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Ability to work as part of a team
Good time management skills

Skills – advantageous:

Radiometry experience
Metrology experience, including familiarity with uncertainty budgets
Experience in geometric, physical and electro optics.
Project management / leadership experience
