We are investing in Data Analytics to generate knowledge from data and address scientific and societal challenges relating to applications in Advanced Manufacturing, Energy & Environment, and Life Sciences & Health.

The successful candidate will work in multidisciplinary teams, analysing data from a range of measurement and sensing modalities, to improve our scientific understanding of the underlying systems.

About You
The Data Science team is looking for a Data Analyst with research experience in machine/statistical learning and AI. Candidates are expected to have
  • a degree/PhD in relevant subject such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics etc.,
  • at least two years of research experience,
  • skills in programming in a high level language such as Python or MATLAB.

We are looking for researchers with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Machine learning: -  deep learning, random forests, clustering, regularisation, feature extraction.
  • Optimisation: for example, convex/nonconvex problems, smooth/nonsmooth problems, first order methods, stochastic gradient descent.
  • Signal processing: for example, wavelets, sparsity, compressed sensing.
  • Bayesian inference and Markovian sampling algorithms.

The role will be based at NPL’s main campus at Teddington but will have opportunities to spend time at other NPL hubs, e.g., Cambridge.

Interviews are scheduled for 8th/9th August and 15th/16th August.. As far as is practical we would appreciate you making yourself available on these dates, should you be invited for interview.  We will give you as much notice as possible.
