As our Contract Manager, you’ll help us maximise income by managing and safeguarding our commercial interests. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.
You’ll play an essential role in growing our business, offering legal advice and support that secures the best possible commercial outcome for any contract or agreement that we enter into. Not only will you identify and manage commercial and legal risks, you’ll also resolve any related queries. And as well as managing the export control process to ensure we’re legally and regulatory compliant, you’ll work with the IPX Manager to optimise licence terms and maximise income from intellectual property too. In addition to supporting the training and development of staff, you’ll develop your own knowledge so that we always epitomise best practice. 
About You

Responsibilities include:-

  • Draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements including R&D (e.g. H2020 and EMPIR).
  • Provide support to the business on any legal or compliance queries arising and to increase awareness of commercial and governance issues within the business.
  • Develop and manage relationships with the NPL Project Office team to support in the negotiation and end to end management of research related agreements.
  • Provide contractual support to the business to ensure that appropriate terms and conditions are in place for all commercial contract.

Skills and Experience required

  • Law Degree/paralegal or qualified solicitor.
  • Experience of working with grant funding.
  • Highly organised and efficient to enable management of large and varied workload.
  • Ability to plan ahead and deliver on targets and deadlines.
  • Effective and clear communicator.
  • A background working within tech, pharma or defence desirable.
