About the Role

You’ll plan and deliver a number of technical activities to take our research to the next level. As we’re pushing boundaries all the time, we’ll expect you to acquire new knowledge to find solutions to advance our research. It’s your responsibility to share your learnings so that we all benefit, mentoring those with less experience than you. Equally, if commercial opportunities arise from your work, you’ll need to flag these – as this is how new products and services are born. The same can be said for developing partnerships to strengthen our capability. You’ll also act as an ambassador for our work externally and be willing to promote what we do. And, as an expert in your field, we’ll also seek your technical support for any bids we may be undertaking.

About You

The candidate will be both a hands-on scientist performing experiments in the laboratory on 2D materials; working to develop services through the H2020 Graphene Flagship project, and other customer focused projects (e.g. through the Analysis of Innovators funded programme)

 They will be able to demonstrate experience of:
  • Working with graphene and 2D materials, e.g. design and measurements of nanodevices made of these material
  • Experience in nanoelectronics,  specifically in the electrical circuit design, analysis & hardware design simulation.
  • Designing and performing experimental studies
  • Circuit testing, validation and calibration. 
  • Working in close collaboration with large networks and/or with customers
 General requirements
  • An appropriate degree (e.g. Physics, Electrical Engineering) with relevant laboratory experience
  • Understanding and enthusiasm in fundamental and applied research
  • Excellent problem-solving, with a record in innovative research
  • Strong influencing, communication and presentation skills
  • Good level of programming skills (e.g. LabView)
  • Ability to manage own time and to work as part of an interdisciplinary project team.
