About the Role

Put simply, we set the standards by which everything is measured. In doing so, the National Physical Laboratory is helping to combat issues on a global scale such as climate change, curing diseases and the development of cutting-edge communications technology. When we work across such a broad range of subjects, we need to make our position very clear. As our Policy Coordinator, you'll support the delivery of government engagement activity including the delivery of political visits, meetings & events. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.

As part of our Government Relationships team within the Strategy Directorate, you will be responsible for helping to deliver policy activity across the whole NPL. Typically,  you will help to write policy statements, responses to policy consultations and inquiries, working with the policy officer, scientists and members of the strategy and communications team as well as undertake policy research and scanning activities to understand the political landscape and where NPL fits in. Finally, we’ll expect you to keep abreast of any government policy that might impact on our scientific research as well as develop and manage relationships with stakeholders in government departments and other associated organisations.
About You
As a Policy Coordinator you will need some experience of working on complex policies for a large, high-profile organisation. Superb communication and organisation skills are absolutely essential, as is the ability to build good relationships.  Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours. At NPL we learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better. For ourselves and for our customers. And whilst we’re always looking to stretch beyond what we know, we don’t make things more complicated when there’s no need. Together, we’re helping make the impossible, possible.

Please note:  Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward.  We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.
