Building relationships with existing customers, new customers, potential partners and collaborators will therefore also be essential. And you will also take responsibility for the performance of your team – motivating them to do better, carrying out their reviews, developing their potential and encouraging them to work together and model NPL’s values. 

 

We are seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to lead the delivery of our commercial services at our Teddington site for the Advanced Materials Characterisation Group.  Our offering ranges from microstructural characterisation of materials and thermal performance to mechanical testing and surface engineering.  We offer these services and consultancies to customers from large primes to SMEs.  The successful candidate will be responsible for managing delivery of our diverse portfolio, ensuring work is completed to the highest quality standards, on time and within budget. As a Senior Deliver Manager, they’ll work closely with the Group Leader to run the group to ensure their portfolio of products and services deliver to expectations and that every opportunity is realised – including identifying new products and collaborations to feed into our continued growth. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of products and services ensuring income and key performance targets are met for the area

  • Working with business, science and engineering leaders, develop and deliver resource, business and investment plans for the portfolio of products and services to ensure ongoing relevance to customers

  • Identify and work with the Group Leader to put in place capabilities needed to achieve targets and maximise the impact of government investment

  • Develop, maintain and manage multi point relationships with existing customers, new client organisations and potential partners or collaborators in order to develop the relationships with these organisations

  • Work with science and engineering teams, sector leads and product managers to identify and introduce new products and services that deliver revenue to NPL and provide positive impact to customers

  • Ensure that services are delivered to the required level of quality and that appropriate accreditations and certifications are maintained. Investigate and resolve any anomalies in delivery

  • Deputise on behalf of the Group Leader when required.

About You
The successful candidate has a keen eye for detail, is a self-starter and communicates effectively at all levels of business.  They will work with our team of scientists and engineers, as well as customers and partners to ensure that NPL’s capabilities efficiently deliver our services and continue to evolve to meet UK current and future needs.  We expect the job holder to work with NPL’s commercial team to grow our measurement service business, translate customer requirements into measurement proposals and new services offerings so attention to detail, good planning and communication skills are vital.  They should also have experience of managing a team, which means they’ll need excellent organisational and influencing skills.
 

Experience, skills and qualifications

  • Proven background of delivering complex business and technical projects using internal and external suppliers is essential.

  • Educated to graduate level in any science or engineering subject would be ideal but other degree subjects would be considered.

  • Experience of working in a laboratory within a formal quality environment (e.g. ISO 17025) would be beneficial as would experience of areas such as materials science or mechanical engineering

  • A sound knowledge of quality management processes and accreditation (ISO9001 and ISO/IEC 17025)

  • Practical experience of resource planning

  • A high level of commercial awareness
