About the Role

NPL is currently seeking two Senior Cyber Security Engineers to join NPL’s CIO Department. The roles involve taking a lead role in supporting the development and implementation of secure systems within complex digital and scientific environments throughout their development and program lifecycle.

You will work closely with the Cyber Security and IT Operations teams on security risk mitigation activities. You will also support the design and implementation of coherent and robust security solutions.

One role will have a strong focus on security operations, incident response, vulnerability management and threat intelligence.

The other role will have a strong focus on firewall management, network security, Network segmentation,  and vulnerability management.

We are working in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working. We are willing to consider candidates who are more remote, provided that they have the necessary technical skills. About You

  • Proven ability to work independently on resolving complex issues, assisted by the Cyber Security Manager and Security Architect.
  • Experience with EDR, M365 security, SIEM, Vulnerability management, MITRE attack framework and Incident response.
  • Experience of providing knowledge transfer to Service Delivery teams and developing other cybersecurity team members.
  •  Having an in-depth understanding of threats in a mission critical or national infrastructure environment.
  • Stakeholder engagement; promoting a mind-set of developing secure systems, transferring knowledge of security standards / processes and acting as a subject matter expert (SME).#
  • Experience of working with MOD e.g CyDR, JSP 604 or NCSC Cybersecurity Assessment Framework or HMG or commercial defence and security environments would be an added benefit.
Role specific skills

Senior Cyber Security Engineer (Firewall)

  • Experience with enterprise networks including next gen firewall, network segmentation technology (Forescout preferred), and internet connectivity.
  • Experience in management of next-generation firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, etc.) and VPN solutions (Site to Site and Remote Access).

Senior Cyber Security Engineer (SOC)

  • Significant experience with working in a security operations centre (SOC) and responding to security alerts, creating response playbooks and handling escalations.
