About the Role

NPL are implementing a Digital transformation programme to become a world leading Digital NMI.  We are looking for people who are passionate about science and who have experience of supporting an organisation through change.  This role will initially be focussing on delivering new technology solutions into the laboratory, supporting scientists at the workbench. 

 

This role sits within the Technology Delivery (CIO organisation) and will have line management responsibilities for technology delivery analysts.  You will be expected to work collaboratively across NPL, and be comfortable with a matrix management environment as you will be required to deliver projects with resources from a variety of teams.  

A  critical member of the Technical Delivery team, this role is responsible for successful delivery of IT solutions for medium to large scale projects. Acts as prime technical interface accountable for the IT delivery of the project from early idea through development to closure. 

About You
You will be accountable for successful delivery of IT System Integration requirements for medium/large scale projects within the Digital Modernisation programme and beyond. Acts as prime technical interface responsible for IT project delivery from initiation through development to closure. 
 
Areas of focus: 
Prime interface for the Project Lead across IT development for medium/large scale project delivery. 
Ensure project management methodology alignment and technology related deliverables are tracked and delivered to time, cost and quality. 
May manage a team of Technical Analysts. 
Direct virtual IT project teams coordinating all technology deliverables to ensure new solutions are delivered effectively.  
Ensure software vendors and outsourced implementation partners deliver to agreed specification and adhere to appropriate governance. 
Support creation of business cases and secures funding through appropriate governance forums. 
Responsible for reviewing and recommending appropriate technologies to meet requirements. 
Proactively engage with stakeholders through the Software Development Lifecycle. 
Provide thought leadership on how technology can be utilised to deliver benefit to the business. 
Ensure production deployments meet business readiness criteria and transition into appropriate NPL IT support frameworks. 
Assist with 3rd party contract negotiation relevant to IT projects. 
Lead technology discovery to determine options for future capabilities. 
 
Skills and Background/Experience required: 
Proven technology management experience of medium/large IT transformation projects through the entire Software Delivery Lifecycle. 
Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure. 
Significant management of 3rd party vendors. 
Project Management experience including planning, resource allocation and prioritisation. 
Extensive stakeholder management skills including ability to convey technical risks and issues to senior business stakeholders. 
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
Excellent people management and business process knowledge.
