About the Role
Our world-leading Time & Frequency department are seeking an experienced and practicing Lab Manager.

As Lab Manager, you'll enjoy collaborating with prominent Scientists, Engineers, and Specialists in Time & Frequency; to ensure
 
- Our laboratories and assets are fit for purpose and well maintained,
 
- Our procedures and activities are compliant, and 
 
- Our people have the appropriate guidance and support to operate safely and securely.
 
You'll be our first point of contact for HSE best practice and keep the laboratory space safe. Additionally, you will support Scientists to navigate regulatory compliance for procurement of new capital and ensure we have the highest safety, environmental and regulatory standards for all equipment across the department.

 
Key responsibilities:
 
- Ensuring the safety and compliance of the labs within the Time & Frequency department
 
- Liaising with Estates to ensure both planned, preventative and reactive maintenance takes place with minimal disruption to the science
 
- Ensuring risk assessments are created and updated to reflect the work undertaken in the labs
 
- Act as single point of contact with Estates and H&S departments for lab upgrades and refurbishments
 
Control and maintain key equipment including regular calibration certificates updates
 
 
This role will require you to work in both an office and laboratory environment, at the Teddington site. 
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills, experience, and qualifications:
 
Essential skills:
 
  • Operational leadership: previous experience of working within a laser lab environment, with knowledge of laser classifications and safe methods of working
  • Health & Safety leadership: signing off general risk, laser risk and COSHH assessments and knowledge of IOSH.
  • Internal audit leadership: investigate incidents and establish root causes.
  • Key equipment: control and maintain key equipment and plan replacement programmes, in line with budget
  • Project management: organise and prioritise workload across multiple activities; including assessment of priority resource requirements.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: with teams such as H&S, Quality Assurance, Estates, facilities, maintenance, security and logistics.
  • Continuous improvement: meeting new efficiency, environmental and commercial targets
  • Confidence: challenge the status quo when required.
 
Desirable skills:
 
  • A technical degree would be advantageous as you’ll be facilitating high-level conversations with Scientists and Engineers
