  • About the Role

  • We’re seeking a talented Site Operations Leader to manage the delivery of a broad portfolio of operations and facilities management services across NPL’s Teddington and Wraysbury estates. Working as a leader in the NPL Estates department and closely with NPL internal and external stakeholders, the role is required to ensure the provision of safe workplaces and effective and efficient operation of the NPL Teddington and Wraysbury sites.

    Reporting directly to the Head of Estates and working closely with the strategy, operations and project delivery groups, the role is essential to ensuring compliance with financial, environmental, health, safety, security and quality requirements in support of NPL’s values and mission. 

    This senior level role will play a crucial role providing a quality service to NPL’s science and engineering programmes and associated supporting functions. 

    Job description 

    • Provide leadership to ensure NPL’s mission, strategy and plans are articulated and understood internally and externally for your areas of the business, that employees and partners are excited by, engaged with and focussed on its successful delivery to maximise impact & growth.
    • Manage the performance and potential of your team, building highly motivated, customer focused and performing teams.
    • Provide direction on all Estates operational activities and empower delivery teams and partners to provide exemplary estates services to NPL and its stakeholders.
    • Ensure the safe, compliant, fit-for-purpose and efficient operation of NPL’s estate and associated FM services to support critical business functions and departments. Lead the identification and specification of business requirements for FM service contracts, ensuring all legal requirements, standards and best practice are incorporated where relevant.
    • GOVERNANCE, EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS
    • Ensure compliance with appropriate internal and external governance including quality, financial, health, safety, security and environmental legislation minimising risk to the business and enhancing NPL’s reputation.
    • Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements across Estates operations and its FM service provision. Implement Lean Six Sigma principles, root cause analysis, and other methodologies to drive continuous improvement and enhance operational excellence.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor appropriate and effective Estates operations management systems. Providing assurance on their suitability, effectiveness of risk control measures and overseeing their continuous improvement.
    • Manage the Revenue budget, forecast expenditures, and control costs to meet financial targets. Optimise resource allocation, prioritise projects, and justify expenditures to ensure a positive return on investment.
    • Contribute to the annual formulation and implementation of the capital plan as well as supporting major bid development with estates input.
  • About You

  • The successful candidate for this role must be able to achieve SC Security clearance. Along with this, essential skills include  

    • Project delivery experience.
    • A minimum of 5 years of programme management experience.
    • Experience of project management methodologies including waterfall and agile.
    • Experience of communication with and delivery to senior executives.
    • Good stakeholder management skills.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills.
    • Post graduate qualification in finance essential.
    • Experience in the negotiation of commercial contracts.
    • Experience in procurement activities such as contract specification, tender evaluation, demobilisation and mobilisation activities.
    • Experience of target operating model design.
    • Good skills for synthesis and analysis of data.
    • Understanding of introducing or adapting technology solutions.
    • Experience of working with operations in regulatory environments.
