  • About the Role

  • Who sets the standards, to ensure that anything that can be measured is done so with consistency and reliability? We do. Through our vital research, the National Physical Laboratory is helping support scientific and commercial innovations, international trade, environmental protection and health and wellbeing. So, when it comes to the standards that we need to meet, we’re very serious about it. As a Quality Controlleryou’ll take control of our quality documentation and reporting database, as well as undertake audits, to make sure we’re compliant on every levelAt NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.

This is a role that calls for meticulous attention to detail. Not only will you update our intranet with all relevant quality informationso that it’s accessible and up-to-date, you’ll also ensure our quality database is maintained regularly too. This allows you to keep on top of issues and follow up these up so that they’re dealt with without delay. What’s more, you’ll help undertake audits – flagging and documenting any issues, as well as putting in place a programme to resolve them. At every stage, you’ll document your findings. And, when there’s any new legislation or business instructions, you’ll see that these are incorporated to audits and procedures as a matter of course. You’ll also liaise with Managers to monitor performance, check that suggested improvements have been rolled-out, as well ensure processes and controls are being adhered to.

  • About You

  • Exceptionally organised and a great administrator, you also have experience of carrying out quality audits within a large organisation, or equivalent. Your attention to detail is second-to-none and you have the communication skills and personable manner, to raise issues with confidence and influence those around you to adopt change.Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours. At NPLwe learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better. For ourselves and for our customers. And whilst we’re always looking to stretch beyond what we know, we don’t make things more complicated when there’s no need. Together, we’re helping make the impossible, possible.

We actively recruit citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work in specific departments means that nationality, residency and security requirements can be more tightly defined than others. You will be asked about this throughout the recruitment process. To work at NPL, you will need to obtain BPSS security clearance.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.
