As an Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll look manage and maintain all installed systems and IT infrastructure to support our continued growth and success. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too. 

     

    The efficient maintenance and support of our systems and infrastructure is essential to business continuity, so you’ll work with the business to understand what their needs are.  From planning and engineering solutions to applications problems, administration or network issues; to providing 3rd line IT service desk support; to liaising with external suppliers to resolve issues or even assisting with the design and testing of disaster recover procedures… you’ll do whatever it takes to optimise performance, whilst minimising disruption and downtime. You’ll also transfer your knowledge to 1st and 2nd line support when transitioning projects to operational support, as well as update documentation in relation to infrastructure systems. 

  • About You

  • You're an infrastructure engineer experienced in the day-to-day administration of IT systems and responsible for providing and maintaining access to systems, data, and applications. You will have a background in administering and maintaining on premises/cloud Exchange email, Windows Active Directory and NTFS file permissions. Experience of unified comms, analogue telephony infrastructure and data networking is highly beneficial. 

    Your technical skills are second-to-none and you also have good communication skills, are customer-focused and results-driven.     Key requirements:
    • Monitor, manage and maintain the IT infrastructure to ensure continued service delivery.
    • Understand the requirements of the business and be involved in developing solutions and technology enhancements
    • Plan and manage technical deliverables within approved projects to deliver appropriate solutions to the business
    • Provide 3rd-line support to the IT Service Desk
    • Create and maintain up-to-date documentation and controls in relation to infrastructure systems
    • Liaise with 3rd party suppliers and external partners

    Desirable technical Skills:
    • MS Active Directory and O365 Admin (Exchange Online, Teams)
    • NTFS folder/file permissions
    • Unified comms and analogue infrastructure. (Telecoms)
    • Data networking
    • Backup technologies (Commvault & Rubrik)
    • Endpoint management (Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager)
    • Software packaging and deployment
    • Security patch management
    • Virtualisation platforms - VMware and Hyper-V
    • PowerShell and Linux

    General skills and experience:
    • Strong Windows and O365 skills
    • Physical data centre management
    • Experience with physical and virtual server provisioning, configuration, and maintenance
    • Excellent all-round hardware knowledge
    • Good understanding of networking
    • Experience of writing documentation - e.g. policies, procedures, wiki/knowledgebase articles
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
